Classic Chatsworth Scene by phil_howcroft

Classic Chatsworth Scene

It's been an 'photography free week' as the dark mornings and dark early evenings have played havoc with photo opportunities. Add to that a couple of evenings out too, the net result is 'no photos'.

We went to Chatsworth House today (Saturday) to see the house decorated for Christmas. It was our first ever visit to Chatsworth and we were pleasantly surprised. Despite it being winter the gardens were lovely, the house very regal and stately, the weather dry but cold. My youngest daughter looked after Ruby at home ....taking her on a 2.25 hour walk with a friend with a "Westie" dog..... they got on rather well ...Ruby and the westie....Molly :)

We took a picnic (picnic in Winter ..nice touch don't you think), I took lots of pictures and we had a ride on a horse and cart (well two horse's actually....shire horses wearing reindeer antlers !!)

We didn't see the Duke of Devonshire, but had a little nosey around his camellia greenhouse :)

Anyway, this is a classic "Chatsworth House" scene, shot from the edge of the lake looking towards the house, with foreground swans, a foreground fountain and the magnificent backdrop of the Peak District Hills.

Added a bit of contrast to make the shot a bit timeless.

Worth a 'view large' with the magnifying glass.
Lovely shot Phil. I'll be checking your knees for grass stains

Beautiful scene, especially with the swans in front. We had a visiting exhibit from Chatsworth at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts a number of years ago. All sorts of treasure and art on display. It was quite memorable.
