Murphy and Son, Percy Street, Basford, Nottingham

I have shot this building before on my 365, with my mobile phone. Today I had my little panasonic TZ7 in my pocket so grabbed a shot on my lunchtime walk.

It had some serious converging verticals, so I attempted to straighten them in GIMP (using the drainpipe on the left hand side as a vertical gauge).

I've tried to show the magnificent colours of the bricks and gate.

The little street sign on the left hand corner is tomorrows shot

I love the arch and the graphics. Wonderful composition from another age.

Beautiful archway! The horizontals and verticals are difficult to get right particularly with a wide angle lens or setting I have found. And if the building is on a slope, its even more tricky!

@busylady great isn;t it judith :)

@kerristephens cheers kerris

@steveh well they could tell a good tale, especially as the 'maltings' across the road are now student halls or residence / accommodation

My word & here is its home....very fitting Phil, beautiful red brick with fine windows & mouldings. Murphy....is that a beer? Is it still in business? Must have been difficult to get this straight!

@happypat thanks Pat, it is a former brewery building, The Prince of Wales Brewery. The current occupants - Murphy and son supply various parts and components to the brewing and pub industry
