50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 21 : You Don't See Many Of Those Around Here
"You Don't See Many Of Those Around Here". That's what the man in the shot shouted over the road to me as we parked up on the seafront in Skegness, Lincolnshire.
It's half term at school I work at, so I have took 3 days off work and today was a 'day trip' to the seaside.
The man was referring to Ruby our little whippet. So I crossed the road to have a chat about whippets and other things. He was sat in a wheelchair outside his holiday let. He lived in Spalding and regularly visited Skegness (and the apartments he was sat outside) to take in the air.
I told him I was from Nottingham and he said he used to go fishing in Colwick and the River Trent. I asked about the standard of his accommodation. "Top Notch, spotlessly clean, we always come here"
I asked him if I could take his picture..."go for it buddy"....so here it is No. 21 in my series of mono portraits
I got some good landscape / street shots and three 'stranger' portraits from our daytrip. I will share a few over the next few days
Super capture. Love his expression - that of a pure Englishman of days gone by. You do have the nerve going around asking people to take their shots - I cannot make myself do that - probably the shots would be crap anyway, haha. FAV.
@sangwann dione, most people are really pleased you asked them to be photographed. I have only been refused 1 photo when I've asked and that was two Bolton Wanderers officails, stood by the main entrance to the Macron Stadium. They said you need permission to take photos but didn't mind if I did a 'walk by shoot' :)
A very good one (portrait)...and I love your stories! Remiinds me a bit of the "Humans of New York" photogrpaher. He also takes great photographs and always reports their stories. Love this idea. A good bit of character in this face.
fav
