Rex in Rawtherapee by phil_howcroft

Rex in Rawtherapee

Rex was my first person in my 50 mono portraits at 50mm.

When I took Rex's picture I did about 10 shots and this is another shot from that summer shoot.

The reason I am posting this image of Rex is because I am experimenting with a new editor i.e. Rawtherapee

It is open source and free and I am really impressed with the features and functionality it provides

It is a non destructive editor of Raw (and jpeg) files and I can highly recommend it (see link below)

Rex's processed image is from a Raw file. I used some "skin tone" parameters and then converted to mono using an Agfa film emulation.
Amazing detail in your shot, I like the other one too. I'm always a bit in awe when I read the technical details under your shots. I'll have a look at the editor (non-destructive sounds an essential!)

@quietpurplehaze thank you Hazel :) . I clicked the skin tones setting to bring our Rex's details :)
I am a bit blown away by the editor. it is really cool
I read the manual for about 30 minutes and off I went
Lots of forums and help on the net and tutorials
It's free too (open source) and runs on windows / macs / linux machines
No need to purchase lightroom / photoshop etc :)

@phil_howcroft

Definitely have a look - my 3 month old Sony has annoyingly deveoped a 'can't read the memory card' fault and may be away for up to a month so I can spend some time on editing existing shots perhaps!

@joceyk WOW hello jocelyn, nice to see you on 365 :) I hope you enjoy your time here. It's a lot smaller than flickr, but you seem to get to know your friends better :)

Rex has an amazing piercing gaze. His eyes are truly the windows of the soul.

I really like the tones in this portrait too Phil......they are very detailed but there isn't that hardness that sometimes you get with a black & white shot. I am always impressed by your knowledge of technical details.

It's kept loads of detail Phil.

Nicely done as always, Phil. Lovely tones for a b&w and good dof too. Interesting pose and angle, i like the quizzical expression.
