This is Gillian who was the first person I photographed at the market.
Gillian had a stall at the market and was selling steampunk related Christmas decorations., the most striking of which was a candelabra.
As the market had just opened I asked Gillian if she was expecting a brisk trade. Gillian said she hoped she would, she had helped publicise the event by making a poster for the event and putting it up in the Tesco store she works at.
Gillian sells her hand made items on ebay too.
I took some photos of Gillian inside her market stall as it had a fantastic red backdrop, however the whole stall was red and she had a red cast on her face, so I asked her to pose outside the stall. You can see a red post and the red tent material on the right hand side of the frame of the shot.
The background is a little busy, but this is street photography and we don't always get ideal backdrops to our strangers.
I am pleased with the skin tones and the details I have got in the hat too. My Darktable editor recovered the details nicely
Thank you Gillian for being stranger number 62. I hope you like the shot if you see it
This picture is number 62 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
To smile or not to smile , that is the question !!!! A great portrait of a strong character -- love the twinkle in her eyes and a promise of a smile ! fav
Fav. (I shall look at your Flickr page as I'm toying with the idea of doing the project again on there once I reach 100(portraits, not years old!) - but I think I might be a bit too casual in my approach - just toying!!)
A very well taken portrait Phil. You know just when to ask if they would move to a different place to your best advantage. I think if you're going to do this project well you have to have the nerve to do it properly, not like me who just snaps as quick as possible to get it over with!
@happypat Pat, I am a shy person at heart and it is always a nervous time approaching a stranger for a shot . Once they have said YES I am OK about asking them to move position a little :)
@quietpurplehaze Haze have a look at the Flickr group too, there are some fabulous portraits there and just looking at them gives you ideas for composition and posing. I am sure you will be OK in the 100 strangers group
Another of your stunning portrait captures, Phil. I take it that the lady is a reserved person from her smile. Like Sylvia, I love that hat. Fav. I will be sharing many more shots of that match daily here and on Facebook if you have time to view.
@ivan thanks ivan for your visit and fave
