This is Basford near to where I work and a street I walk down when on my lunchtime walk.
Basford is an inner city area and there are several streets with terraced houses.
I like how the doors open directly onto the street.
The community in Basford is quite a close knit community and everyone is friendly. I always exchange a few words with passers by, well perhaps a "hi you OK" / "hello" / "allright", although there are some locals I have longer conversations with, in fact I've shot a couple of Basford strangers for my 100 strangers project while wandering the streets
I have a HUGE soft spot for terraces. Spent many a happy year in terraces much like these in Leeds as a student. Our first married house was a terrace too. When we moved to where we are now to begin with I felt very isolated after years of terraced living.
Reminds me of the back streets of Liverpool and Manchester too. Very similar terracing and on a hill. Things are different now, but 50 years ago all the ladies would have been out scrubbing the doorsteps as a sign of pride. Nice that the community there is still a close knit friendly one.
My son lived for a few months in a terraced house like this when he moved to the UK to continue his specialist studies in psychiatry. And that was before he bought his own house.
This is just so - well - urban. Our daughter lived in a similar house in Lancaster while at uni. I found it hard to get used to the lack of green trees in the streets.
@phil_howcroft oh yes Hyde Park. Where did she live? I lived on Mayville St, Welton Grove and Hessle View. Hyde Park has its own special place in my heart! I was there 99-02
@newbank newbank , Claire was at Leeds met 06 to 09 and when she graduated she worked in Leeds/ Bradford for 3 years. She lived in various locations ...kirkstall , headingley , city centre student flats and just outside Hyde Park on a cobbled street !
