100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 150 : John

A milestone posting. Stranger number 150 , half way through my second round of 100 strangers.

I am pleased to introduce John to you all. I tried a different location on Sunday, loitering around the area outside Yates Wine Lodge and The Bell.

As I glanced up St. James Street , I saw a stylish gentleman walking down the alleyway, so I walked up the alleyway to introduce myself.

As I got closer I realised that I'd seen him before on another "Nottingham Stranger Photographer's" photostream (Peter McConnochie, who is on his 4th round of 100 strangers). I almost let him walk by, as I thought I might be copying someone else's photo, but then thought I could photograph John in a different style and maybe get a different story.

John was up for a photo straight away and I asked him to stand by the wall .

John told me he collects Edwardian memorabilia. His waistcoat is from 1901 and then he produced a pocket watch which he told me was from 1899 (the Victorian era). He also proudly showed me his walking stick and the inscription on it which dated it at 1900.

John said he'd been photographed several times and often appeared on Facebook and social media. In fact he thought I'd photographed him before but I assured him I'd not, but I did say I'd seen him on 100 Strangers .

I asked him what his plans were for the rest of the day (it was about 11.40 am when I met him) and he said he would go for a wander around the city and then he gestured and whistled and raised his hand to his mouth in a drinking fashion to indicate he would go for a drink.

I asked him where he was drinking and he said The Bell as they had live jazz on a Sunday lunchtime / afternoon.

Worth a view large to see the detail on his waistcoat and stick.

So there you have it, stranger 150, a stylish "Edwardian Nottingham Gentleman"

Fav. My gosh you get the most interesting subjects for your portraits - This guy must be a one in a million find. I thought he was a 5-Star hotel Manager or usher or something with those impeccable cloths on (no insults intended for sure)
