100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 182 : Jess by phil_howcroft

100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 182 : Jess

This is Jess, my third stranger from the Nottingham Green Festival.

Jess is a friend of my previous stranger Lizzie and I shot both of them at the same location within a few seconds of each other.

Now here is the complicated bit. I know another local amatuer photographer (Steve), from a different camera club to mine, who is also doing the 100 strangers project. He photographed my previous stranger Lizzie in his project. Steve has since told me that my previous stranger is called Jess , not Lizzie !!! So my issue is did I record the names the wrong way round when I shot Jess and Lizzie i.e. this is Lizzie not Jess !

I'm pretty good at recording names, I write them in my phone straight after a shoot !

Anyway "Lizzie / Jess" creates a striking photo for my project.

Lizzie was wearing dark clothing and had dark hair , so I decided to create a mono portrait.

I don't have a real back story to the image as both Lizzie and Jess were chatting in a group and I felt I was interrupting them.

I did ask about Jess's tattoos asking if she used the same parlour / artist for her ink work. She told me her tattoos were the work of several different tattoo artists.

I used my vintage Industar И-61, 58 mm f2.8 lens for this shot and post processed the RAW file in Darktable and GIMP.

Thank you for being stranger number 182 Jess / Lizzie.

BTW, I did not know that Steve had photographed my previous stranger, Lizzie, when I approached her for the photo ! I think we have maybe 3 common strangers in our projects. Steve is well over 200 strangers and I am fast approaching 200 !

Phil, I love your strangers individually, but they are positively enchanting when seen as a group! There is such diversity but a common sense of good cheer. Keep up the good work!

You must be getting pretty good at engaging strangers in conversation now! Nice facial tones here!

I smiled at the name mix up, easily done! Another super portrait. You really do have a knack of bringing out something more than just the face in a portrait. You capture something of the essence of the person too. That is what makes them so good.

Well there is a possibility that Steve is wrong & he got them muddled up....my moneys on you! I bet he hadn’t taken as many as you! Sounds like that are lining up for photos. Jess will love this one!

It seems like the festivals are good for stranger photos. You pick such interesting characters and then present them so calm looking. Always very considered portraits, never seem to be rushed. I like how you have got such good depth in the facial features.
