This is my final stranger from last month’s Nottingham Goose Fair. It’s a portrait of on of the fortune tellers at the fair. There is always a row of caravans across the road from the “Forest Tram Stop”
I made my way over to one of the caravans as a lady was stood by her caravan door on her mobile phone.
“Excuse me , is it OK to take your picture, I am an amateur photography doing a project on street photography?”
“Of course you can”
“Thank you very much , that’s very kind of you”
“Are you Gypsy Lee?”
I thought that was probably a bit of a daft question as the caravan had lots of sign’s indicating it belonged to Gypsy Lee.
“No I’m not, Gypsy Lee is my Mum, but she;s not very well today, so I am taking her place”
Ahh, I thought to myself , not as daft a question as I thought !
“Do you know Gypsy Rosa Lee’s Nephew, Jeff ? I used to work with him?”
FYI : Rosa Lee was in the next door caravan
“I’m not familiar with the name”
“Ahh right, he did all the sign writing for Rosa Lee’s Caravan and her daughter Ann Marie’s Caravan. I took some photos of the caravans and Ann Marie and her family, four years ago”
"No, I don't know him"
I was quite disappointed at that, as when Jeff tells me all his Gypsy stories, he seems to know everyone in the Gypsy world.
While this dialogue is going on I am taking pictures.
“Have you been busy?”
“”I’ve had a steady feed”
Her mobile phone rang again and she spoke to the caller
“I’m really sorry, I am going to have to take this call”
“Ok , no problem , thank you so much for the photos. Have a great Goose Fair”
That was it , photoshoot over, I never got her name. She obviously inherited the gift of fortune telling from her mother as she was able to run the stall on such a big stage as the Goose Fair.
