Arnold holds its annual Christmas market this weekend. The streets of the town centre are closed to traffic and parked cars and taxis are replaced with market stalls, craft stalls, funfair rides, fast food stalls etc. The highlight of the event is the turning on of the Christmas lights by the mayor and songs from local primary schools. The event has a really nice feel good factor to it.
I decided to take Ruby into town for a mid afternoon walk and see if I could get a stranger photograph.
Meet Amy, who had a cake stall in a prime location by the side of the market and next to the entrance to the Arnold Methodist church.
I thought she would make a good stranger and loitered for a few moments while Amy sold some cakes to some school children.
Amy was stood under the canopy of her stall and lit by the light of a her stall.
I asked how long Amy had been in business and she told me about a month . This was her first public outing.
Amy told me she lived in the Killisick estate and had a five star rated hygiene kitchen at home. She had decided to set up her business after being made redundant twice in just two years. She’s a single parent and was worried about paying bills etc.
I asked her if she did gluten free cakes as my wife is Coeliac. Amy told me she did as her Dad was Coeliac, so she was aware of the condition, she also told me she did vegan cakes too.
I wished Amy well in her business and shook her hand. She said goodbye to Ruby saying she was a beautiful dog
Thank you for being part of my strangers project Amy. I wish you well in your new venture.
The image was edited in darktable and GIMP and converted to mono as the light from the strip lighting was a little cold.
