100 Strangers : Round 3 : No. 210 : Kai and Luke (vintage Industar И-61 53mm f2.8)
On Thursday, while walking my whippet dog, I went to the skate park in Arnot Hill Park. Two skaters were setting up, Luke and Kai. Luke was skating and Kai was watching. Kai (left hand side of the frame) bashed his head a few years ago so has retired his skate board. Luke was doing some tricks in the low winter sun. I had my Sony A6000 and an old Russian vintage lens attached to it, the beautiful Industar И-61 53mm f2.8 prime lens. I asked the lads if I could take some pictures. Remember this is a manual focus lens, so no fancy auto focus, I zone focused on an area of the park and waited for Luke to enter that zone. The vintage lens did a good job and Luke did some good skating tricks (see my previous photo for the action picture)
Oh and Like was 21 years old on Friday , Happy Birthday Luke
I asked the lads if they would use the post as a prop as it added a bit of an urban feel to the photo. They are in a slightly different focal plane, so the depth of field is quite shallow, but the Industar always does a great job.

Great capture of the two lads. Sorry to read about Kai. This Industar lens seems to be one of your favourites because notwithstanding the long range of lenses you have, you use it very often.
Kai is great still going out there and cheering Luke on, kudos to him. Full of character in this image as always. You are a great portrait photographer. I always enjoy your images. I always think a good shot captures something of the essence of the person, not just the exterior.
Nice shot Phil....those young men look a touch bashful but so good to look back on these lovely photos when they are older.... we rarely get them at that age. It’s good of Kai to be there for his friend, wonder if he ever wants to have another go but wisely not! Your is a great portrait lens...these old lens still come up trumps!
