100 Strangers : Round 3 : No. 217 : Hussain

On Saturday we went for a walk in the Nottingham City Centre. It’s the first time we have been in the city since lockdown. We drove to the park and ride and then walked into the city, following the tram lines.

It was surreal in the city. On a normal Saturday morning it would be a hive of activity, but on Saturday it was like a ghost town. I took several photos recording the uniqueness of the situation.

On the way back I suggested we walked down Radford Road as it is home to a diverse community and there is a fabulous supermarket on the corner of Radford Road and Gregory Boulevard that I’ve been wanting to photography for some time. It has a lovely display outside the shop of fresh fruit and vegetables.

As we approached the corner I handed Ruby’s lead to my wife (that’s our little whippet) and she disappeared down the road, while I looked for one of the stallholders to ask permission to take a photo. Hussain appeared out of the “stock shed” at the end of the display pushing a trolley of bananas to restock the shelves / display.

I shouted to him to catch his eye and asked if I could take his photo. He nodded in approval, so I asked him if he could move along the row a more metres to a location with a good selection of fresh fruit. Hussain posed for a few photos and then gestured that he had to get on with his work.

It was a bit of a rushed meet and shoot , but I knew it would be a great photo and when I uploaded it onto my computer I was not disappointed. I had to crop out some plastic bags in bottom of the frame.

Fabulous colours and shapes. I haven’t been in to Brum for months and, judging by the news this morning, I have no desire to go back soon. Where I used to work there were local markets like this just crammed with wonderful goodies. I really miss them. Great shot!

Gorgeous shot of Husain and his stall full of mouthwatering fruit. Glad you took the plunge and went to the city centre - quite difficult to decide after so many weeks locked up at home. Still always stay on guard.
