I've been scanning loads of old negatives from my archive. The vast majority of my shots are family shots...holidays, birthdays, christmas, my daughters growing up.
I have however stumbled upon the occasional photo that falls into the "street photography" genre.
Here is one said photo, a street seller in Zakinthos (a Greek island) town centre selling fish. Sardines perhaps.
I don't think health and safety was invented back in 1985. A food vendor with a cigarette in his mouth, no aprons, gloves etc. and I cannot see any evidence of ice in his fish boxes.
Looking at the photo I've made a basic error, in that the other side of the street is in bright sunlight. If I had stood in front of his stall the whole photo would have been in the shade with no bright bits
Anyway I love the colours, and the retro vehicles and scooter. Nice scales too.
I shot this with my Olympus OM20 SLR and Zuiko 50mm f1.8 lens. I know that because I only had two cameras and a few shots after this in the negatives there is a photo of me with the said camera in my hand. I knew it was that camera without seeing the photo of me, because if we went somewhere sightseeing, I would take my SLR rather than the point and shoot. Shot on Kodak film.
I may post a few more "old school streeties" that I have found, I will spare you the holiday photos of me in my speedos !
Interesting photo, Phil! You have a long story as a street photographer! This really tells a story and a story of the past, with the lack of attention to hygiene (but who cared?) and the old car in the background. Lovely. Fav
This was a regular scene here too in those days. People bought from them, cooked and we heard of people with fish poisoning in those days. I think life was better than then today.
How interesting to see this scene. Times have changed but I’m sure no one got poisoned! We are tougher than we think! As we used to say on the farm, a bit of dirt harms no one & makes your body immune to bugs! When I think of the stuff our kids did & ate & never took harm!
Great capture of the fishmonger. I can just imagine what health and safety would be saying about the cigarette. Love the scooter in the background. I was trying to make out whether or not it's a Vespa.
Hi everyone , thank you for the positive comments on this old streetie photo . It will link in nicely with my next 2021 stranger photo , that I will post tomorrow
