100 Strangers : Round 3 : No. 293 : Max, Joe and Morgan
I went to the Duck Park with Ruby and Willow this afternoon. Willow fell asleep in her buggy (she wouldn’t fall asleep on her lunch time nap), so rather than saying hello to the ducks I took a detour to the skate park at the top of the hill.
When I got to the skate park three youths were doing tricks on their BMX bikes. I watched them for a while and then shouted over to them to ask if it was OK to take some photos.
I took quite a few action shots and changed my position a couple of times.
As I was taking photos I engaged Max, Joe and Morgan (left to right on the picture) in a bit of chit chat, asking a series of questions about them and BMX biking.
Do you wear Helmets
Max : “Yes, but not today”
Joe : “Usually, Yes”
Morgan : “No”
Have you broke any bones?
Max : “Yes, it is a dangerous sport”
Joe : “Several times”
Morgan : “No”
Are you in a club?
All : “No”
How long will you do it for?
Max : “Until my body says No, I’ stopped doing it for 8 years and started again during lockdown”
Joe: “As long as I can”
Morgan : “I don’t know, I started on skate boards and now do bikes”
Can I take your photo for my street strangers project and post it online
Max : “Yes no problem, where do you want us”
Phil: “Can you line up against the edge of the bowl
To passing dog walkers and walkers, this must have been a slightly surreal scene, a sixty something year old bloke on his knees, with a whippet dog in one hand and a 15 month old baby asleep in her buggy, taking photos of three youths, while music boomed out of the speakers they had brought with them. So I was lined up Ruby, Phil, Willow, taking photos of Max, Joe and Morgan
Nice story and photo. Shot with my Sony RX100, post processed in GIMP.
I notice Morgan doesn’t wear a helmet and he is the only one who hasn’t broke any bones. I predict if he is brought down by a spill, a helmet may become part of his essential gear. These bikers are perfectly captured in B&W.
Beautiful capture of the three of them together. Quite a feat to take this shot while holding the buggy and Ruby. When I take out Snuggles, my daughter's corgi, i leave the camera at home because it is impossible to take pictures while he is pulling on the leash.
Love your description & you paint a great picture! I think those lads must have felt like super stars, they would have loved it but I’m slightly worried about the No helmets choice! If it was one of my lads I would be on the warpath!
