This is Olivia, who I met in Bolero Square, Nottingham, she was waiting outside Nottingham arena to visit the Em-Com Cosplay event.
Olivia had travelled to Nottingham from Great Barr, Birmingham. She told me that her father was an engineer and had been working at the arena during the week and told her about the event. Olivia told me that two Cosplay events were taking place in London at the weekend and also one in Manchester. Olivia said that she chose to attend the Nottingham event because it was closer and also cheaper than the other events. Olivia said she was always pleased when a photographer asks her to take her photo.
I asked Olivia about her costume. Olivia is Tohru Honda, who is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya. She is the main protagonist, noted for her cheerful optimism, altruistic nature, and great sympathy for others. Takaya created her with an unusual perspective on the world, to balance her empathy (so now you know)
I also asked about the significance of the Orange cat to her character. The cat is Kyo Sohma an orange haired boy, In one episode Tohru hugs him and he turns into a cat ! I think that’s the correct story !
Anyway Olivia makes a great stranger story and her outfit is very authentic and accurate. I gave Olivia a contact card and thanked her for allowing me to photograph her, she loved the photos when she saw them on the back of my camera.
What an interesting story & subject. I had to google Cosplayer as I had never heard the word before so we learn something every day!
Her costume is amazing & she looks lovely. I hope she did well.
Very cool portrait, and very different to those you have posted recently, at least. She even used blue nail polish to go with her outfit. I never heard of this Toru Honda thing.
