It's Nottingham Goose Fair this week, one of Europe's largest traveling fairs.
I took my Granddaughter Willow to the fair. The opening times were advertised as opening at 12 midday, but when we got there most of the stalls were shut. Apparently there had been some confusion as to the start time between the showmen and the internet. Most stalls were not opening until 16.00 hours. Some food stalls were opening, but Willow and I had already shared a Greggs ! Willow did enjoy the colours of the side stalls and rides and loved walking along the metal corrugated paths. We called in the play park on Gregory Boulevard before catching the bus back home !
I did get a few pictures while there, this picture of the "Waltzer Lads" being a fave.
These three men were the maintenance team for the ride, building and dismantling the ride and also performing health and safety checks before the fair opened.
I asked if I could take a picture of them, "it will make a great photo" I told them. I think it does too ! I knelt down, pulled Willow towards me to ensure she was safe and shot a few images.
They will be taking the Waltzer, back to Oswestry when the fair closes as that's where it lives.
The Waltzer is an old school ride and one that I have refused to ride on for many years (I don't like being spun around)
Oh this is not a ride for me :-) This is a fabulous capture of this group. They seem happy to be photographed!
I hope you'll share more pics of the fair.
Wonderful stranger capture! This same type of ride was popular at Myrtle Beach during my teen years. It came with a DJ playing the latest rock n' roll hits which made it tons of fun going round to the music. =)
Always a great event. I have been a couple of times. Part of this fair used to move on to Loughborough afterwards. Loughborough fair is always Remembrance Sunday weekend.( itโs actually on for 3/4 days & is held in the streets of the town.)
Great image of the blokes....I used to love going on rides and roller-coasters...there are some I would still go on and the Waltzer might be one of them ๐
What a great shot. Their faces have a lot of character.
I think your Waltzer is what we would call a Tilt-A-Whirl. An entertainment best enjoyed before lunch rather than after.
Great shot. Willow must have been very disappointed that the fair wasn't open though. The play park will have helped though, and saved you a bit of cash! ;-)
Great shot Phil.i passed up the chance to go on the carousel in Nice yesterday. I do love a carousel ride with the horses going up and down, but I didn't have any little ones to take on with me.
Great capture of this trio. B&W works perfect. I loved to read the name Oswestry. I was there for a stop on our way to North Wales (I think) and I still have a pair of trekking shoes I bought when we were there.
None of our family like fairground rides except the granddaughter in NZ. I think you were better without the rides on, might have been a bit noisy & scary for Willow. I recognise the All Blacks fern! Nice capture all sitting on the steps like that.
