100 Strangers : Round 4 : No. 365 : Joseph and Jacob
I went to the UniBol today to watch my team Bolton Wanderers play Barnsley in the EFL League 1 play off semi final. As I parked up I noticed a coach with lots of people waving flags and holding up a big poster stood outside the coach.
As I made my way to the coach everyone was packing up and getting onto the coach. I asked one of the group what was happening?
Meet Joseph, who told me it was a religious meeting that had just finished in the conference suit of the Wanderers stadium. I asked Joseph what was the religion, he told me it was Christian . I asked him what his heritage was and he told me Indian, “You are not Sikh’s?” I asked. Joseph said it was Orthodox Catholic , but I've been in contact with Joseph since the shoot and he confirmed it is the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church (JSOC) . I asked Joseph where the coach had travelled from, he told e they were from Guildford. He asked me about the football, I told him I was a Wanderers fan from Nottingham. It is unusual for a conference to occur on a match day, but the fixture was a late addition to the Wanderers fixtures as they had qualified for the play offs.
I asked Joseph if I could take his photo for my strangers project. By this time Joseph had been joined by his younger brother Jacob. It was a difficult shoot as the car park was bathed in direct sunlight with no shade. I decided to use the front of the bus as the location as there was a tiny bit of shade. The photo isn’t my best strangers shot as I have the bus wing mirror on top of the frame and the location had lots of glare reflected from the coach windscreen.
Joseph told me he is a student studying “Aerospace Engineering” at Swansea University, “The campus is next to the beach” he smiled as he told me that fact !
Photoshoot over, I wished Jospeh and Jacob a safe journey back to Guilford
Interesting reading, I have never heard of Orthodox Catholics either…..I wouldn’t have picked that by just looking at them. Not many young men their age would be going to such meetings….good on them! It’s a lovely photo.
