Twenty six years ago, whilst serving in Northern Ireland, I managed to tear the Medial and both Anterior and Posterior Cruciate Ligaments in my left knee. With the aid of steroid injections, the speedy prescription of a Donjoy Leg Brace together with painkillers (plus Ibuprofen) from the Medical Officer, I was able to play 36 holes in a golf tournament the next day (partnering the very same MO) but I really probably should not have. The knee has never been the same since that day, and my running of marathons and my orienteering (a sport I excelled at whilst in the Army) ended abruptly that afternoon on the camp’s astroturf football pitch.
In the last 24 hours I’ve done something to the same knee, I don’t know what. It’s noticeably swollen, sore to the touch, very painful on moving from being stationary; once I get moving it’s not that bad. I’m hoping that this neoprene knee support will get me around the golf course tomorrow (as I managed all those years ago).
You have always had 90 year old knees! You’ve come home with lots of sports injuries over the years & you still think you can do everything at the same pace! But, that is your mindset & I don’t think that will change! Ice & brufen!
Lots of good advice here Phil, the general theme being that none of us is getting any younger so we have to take good care of ourselves. Only yesterday my husband was referred for a knee replacement.
