Hot Bird by phil_sandford

Hot Bird

Just cleaning up the NAS following the power issues of the other day (it looks as if we've survived the sudden close down of it during its system upgrade, thank fully) and came across this photograph that I took a couple of weeks ago of a Blackbird postrate on the lawn in the summer sun. I think, not sure, it's what they do to cool down?

Thanks for dropping by
The birds do this here when it is very hot too and I believe it is to help drive parasites out from within their plumage.

Unusual sight and interesting picture, I am not a bird expert so I think your assertion is probably right along with the comment from Babs.

Have seen a few birds do this when it’s hot, so think you are correct.

Anything to cool off, squirrels have been doing this here this summer.

Wonderful capture... We see (Queensland) the pigeons & magpies in our back garden cooling off this way..
They even dig small holes in the soil to sit in..

Unfortunately, all beings suffer in hot weather
