A foul day here in the Shire, so a photograph taken a couple of days ago of (yet) another of our garden visitors
Another classic photograph showing the discrepancy, in the bird world, between the male and the female of the species. The female Chaffinch is almost colourless compared to her male equivalent. Both are superbly camouflaged against the ground (being predominantly ground feeders).
The common chaffinch, usually known simply as the chaffinch, is a common and widespread small passerine bird in the finch family. The male is brightly coloured with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts
They sure did get the short end of the stick with colors didn't they - the guys are all so pretty in the bird kingdom but maybe the females are better camouflaged for protection.
