Last full day in Cornwall; we headed up towards Boscastle to walk St Nectans Glen (a hidden gem we were told about by our landlady), fantastic stream running through a wooded valley (lots of silky water) down the coast then to Tintagel and the Castle.
Last time we were at Tintagel, in 2004, the weather was so foul the castle was closed, so it was great to get right to the top and see it all today.
From Tintagel, again down the coast to St Agnes and Wheal Coates, a disused Tin Mine now managed by the NT.
A bite to eat in a nearby hostelry, then back for the sunset over the mine pumping house (famously used in the BBC drama, Poldark) with a host of other folk all doing the same.
Carole is also putting up a similar shot, taken about an hour or so before I took this; quite a difference in sky colour.
You can read more about Wheal Coates tin mine here
We had already been here in the afternoon, and both of us wanting to get the sunset, we pushed off for a bit to eat and came back an hour or so before sunset. I had seen photographs of the sunset overland, with the mine to the left of the photo, but when we arrived the sun was anywhere but near that headland. There then ensued a family argument with me saying "the sun sets in the west, it has done since time immemorial” and Carole responding, “well it’s not going to today”
Frantic search on Google by yours truly, to learn (yup, everyday is a school day) the sun actually ONLY sets direct in the West on the Autumn Equinox, other than that day it shifts about. So, there then followed a hasty apology by me to Carole and then some frantic movement to get ourselves in the position to get out photographs for this day.
Thank you all very much for your views, comments, favs and reactions which took this photo to the TP and PP also
