Due to a variety of reasons, I neglected to lift my Dahlias as winter set in back in October/November last year. (you can see examples of my Dahlias in my early photographs for the project)
The first frost turned all of the plants black and I did what Monty Don said I needed to do; "cut them back and lift in a day or so" Sorry Monty, I only did part of that, the part I didn't do, was lift them, life sort of got in the way. I left them, I forgot about them, I neglected them, I let them down, I left them to suffer in the cold, I left them to die.
More frosts came during the winter, some worse than others, and I basically, yeah, I wrote them all off as dead.
So, I powered up my trusty PC, visited a popular horticultural website that I've used often and ordered some more. A month or so ago, I planted the 'some more' out in the green house and this photograph are the "some more"
They have completely taken over my greenhouse (so much so that DPD now leave my Amazon parcels outside it in the rain) and they desperately 'need' to be planted out this weekend (not tomorrow, we're off to a wedding).
So what's my problem? Well, the problem is, each and every Dahlia from last year has survived the winter; they have laughed in the face of our UK winter and are quite happily growing where they were. The problem I'm going to have on Sunday is, "where on earth do I put this lot?"
