Male Chaffinch by phil_sandford

Male Chaffinch

As Carole has said, foul day here today in the Shire. Took this picture this morning, been hoping for something better to come along, but alas it was not to be.

At first, given the brightness of his chest, I thought that this might be a Bullfinch, but I'm not sure that the head is right; Bullfinches have black head. So, checking out my handy RSPB Book of British Birds, I reckon this is a male Chaffinch, with brighter coloured feathers now that they're begining to pair up ready for the spring and the mating season. Of course, that could be rubbish.

Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
Not rubbish at all - all males have to attract a female or they wouldn't look at them! Nice focus on him!

Definitely a male chaffinch. I've been watching our feeders today as it's the RSPB bird watching weekend but the most exotic thing I saw was a blue tit! Nice catch :)
