Carole and I have a few of these which we get out at Christmas; we've had them since we were stationed in Berlin in the '80s. They are a very traditional German Christmas ornament and, I believe but we've never tried them, actually functional.

We returned from Germany in the 80's to the first Lincoln Christmas market I believe. It was very small then, but the children loved the bratwurst which they thought they wouldn't be able toget. ( don't think our nutcracker works either!
