Then There Were Three

Carole is convinced I’m obsessed with collecting rain water and with my water butts. I know that I have had the drainpipe converter too high for too long and as you know from a previous photograph on here (see link below), I have had to use a garden ‘dibber’ to block the ingress of water and the butts overflowing.

Today is the first day of a weeks leave for me, (we take delivery of the granddaughters later this afternoon) so I have used this morning to buy and install a third 200 liter water butt in series with the other two. I transferred the water from the second (middle) one into the new one (left) and then raised the middle one by about 2 cm and levelled it, I then transferred the water from the first water butt, on the right (a different colour from 14 years of bleaching by the weather) into the middle one, and I then raised the first water butt by about 5cm, getting the inlet pipe level with the diverter on the drainpipe.

I’ve tested it and all appears to be fine - the yellow dibber is on standby .......
Sounds hard work - but they'll be full now with all this rain!

Ha , a very scientific process ! All three will be full if you have had a day like we have had today - torrential rain for most of the day !!

Looks like you live in Cape Town. We all now collect rainwater and recycle greywater. I use mine for toilet and garden.

The amount of rain we are getting, I don’t think you really need any! See, proof of obsession!

I'm voting for ya Phil - everyone should be conserving as much water as possible!
