He Knew

A shot from last night’s trip out to the Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln after dark. It was still very quiet, pubs still closed here in the UK, but some folk were around.

Stood in Castle Square, setting up the shot of the square with the Cathedral in the background, a man came up from Steep Hill. He quite obviously saw Carole and I with cameras and he deliberately walked into the shot and stood there working his phone. I crossed my arms and waited. He looked at us a number of times and quite obviously knew what he was doing. He got bored before I did and left after 15 minutes or so.

I have put this up on another Social Media site and it received quite positive comments that his presence ‘added’ to the shot. I’m not so sure. What do you guys think?

Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
A not unpleasant addition to your shot Phil. It emphasised the solitude of the area.

I think he makes the picture. It really adds another dimension. You really feel the isolation and it shows just how small humans are beneath the towering cathedral. Fav

Great shot. Amazing that people will deliberately try and ruin the photo you envisaged. So much selfishness

He certainly made this a shot for these times. We all recognize the hunched shoulders, head lowered, cell phone stance. He does not ruin the photo for me, but after reading your narrative I am quite put out with him for his deliberate interference!

I know he was annoying you, but I ignored him. I actually think he adds something.

There's always one.......

But actually, he does increase the sense of scale and solitude there. How annoying!

He adds to the picture.

I think he shows the size and magnificence of the building...that being said, the world is always full of nuisances

Magnificent place & architecture.

Really atmospheric

So annoying, however it is kinda cool that he is on his phone, nobody else around surrounded by impressive looking buildings.
Love the B/W

It doesn’t actually spoil the shot but I would have been furious.

Since he seemed deliberate, I would have been very annoyed, but I think the shot is fine with a person showing the scale of the building. Kind of old and new juxtaposition also.
