After a three year hiatus (for obvious reasons) the Woodhall Spa 1940s festival was held this weekend. It really is a great occasion with vintage vehicles, folk in a multitude of uniforms from the era and of course the fly past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) based just a few miles away at RAF Conningsby.
The fly past was scheduled for 1500 so we were somewhat surprised to hear the roar of a Rolls Royce Merlin Engine whilst we were in the woods as a Spitfire roared overhead. “Typical RAF” I thought, “never on time.”
We got to the grounds of the Petwood Hotel, once the Officers Mess for the Dambusters of 617 Squadron and grabbed a much needed ice cream and some iced water. About 20 minutes later, that ‘sound’ filled the sky again and the spitfire did two further passes.
Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
