One of this pair of swans is the one I posted a pic of guarding their first egg recently.
Apparently swans lay their eggs individually over a period of time. To avoid the first signet needing them to leave the nest to protect it before the others are hatched the swan doesn't sit on the nest to begin the incubation process until all eggs are laid. I'm 61 and have only just learnt this!
