Years of wishes

One of the many tree stumps where people hammer in coins to make wishes. Generally wishing for better quality hammering rocks, in my case.

It's odd to see how quickly modern coins deteriorate.
You hear about coins from Roman times. and older, being found. I guess they used less inert (is that the word?) materials.
