I'm not sure what they're called, but it's an old Italian recipe. You mix boiled rice, milk and flour, with a touch of orange zest (but you can use lime or lemon if you prefer). You roll the mixture up into these log shapes, fry them, then roll them in sugar.
I took about 93873894 pseudomacro pictures of a light-pink rose, and 3 pictures of these things, and somehow these things ended up being the winner. I guess they captured the day better (I usually attempt cooking when procrastinating).
Recipe:
1. Boil 1 cup of rice, until rice is soft. Drain and leave aside to cool (until rice is warm enough to touch - not too cool!).
2. Add the rice, 2 cups of self-raising flour and 1/2 a cup of milk into a mixing bowl.
3. Add the grated zest of 1 orange (or lemon or lime).
4. Mix ingredients by hand (you may need to add more milk if mixture is too dry).
5. Preheat 3cm of vegetable/canola oil in a pan (I used an electric frypan).
6. Take a handful of mixture and place on a chopping board. Flatten it out by hand on the board to ~2cm thick, ~10cm across, and as long as your chopping board allows, so it forms a rectangle.
7. Using a pallet (or any) knife, cut a 2cm-wide piece off the end of the rectangle, and slowly and carefully roll it into the pan.
8. Fry logs until golden brown. Leave aside to cool and drain of oil, then roll in sugar.
Note: for a gluten-free recipe, use gluten-free self-raising flour. You may need to add a touch of baking powder, as well as extra milk since gluten-free flour tends to make the mixture drier and denser.

I hate when I take so many shots like that. I've done that 3 days so far, and 2 out of those 3 times, the FIRST picture I took ended up being the best one to use, lol.
these sund and look sooooo good.....Ive been thinking about them all day since seeing your shot this morning....lol....I may just need to attempt to cook them!!
yeah I googled it, definitely a churro. But I think that's the Mexican name for it. Considering I always got them from this Mexican vendor thingy back in the day.
i think im dyslexic
Google Translate has no idea :P
I am slightly inclined to roll them in cinnamon sugar.
And that I shall!
Thanks :)
