The Pioneer Pergola

In the part of town where we used to live is a little community park called St. Andrew's Park, and in the park is this odd structure called The Pioneer Pergola. As can be seen in the photo, the outside walls, inside walls, and even parts of the floor are made of/covered in old gravestones!

St. Andrew's Park was, from the 1830s until the 1880s, the site of a church called St. Andrew's. In 1907, about 20 years after the church was demolished, a local group built this pergola out of grave markers erected from the 1830s through to the early 1870s as a way of honouring the town's early settlers. It displays the names of 207 early members of the community.

It certainly isn't the kind of structure you come across often.
Gosh… very unusual
