Hope and faith by pyrrhula

Hope and faith

Mauritius church Marsum ( Groningen ) Holland.
This romanesque church was bult in the middle of the 12th century.
The tower ( seem age) has a chapel on his first floor.
The whole church is buld on a man-made hill , a ``wier`` or ``terp``.
In former days the people of those villages( farmhouses) made those hills to shelter from/of high waters and storms.
The churches are buld like fortress to have a save place at war times and robbery
To day there is no use for it , a foundation keep it for the future.
Yesterdas road pic leads to this chuch.
And I have hope and faith to get my pic back. Our sun will help to it.
To all dear followers : have a nice weekend

Hi there my friend. Even though I am taking the summer off from my photo project, I wanted to stop by and say "hello". I am so glad that you have decided to stay with the 365 project. I am sure everyone would miss you as much as you would miss them!! This is a beautiful old church. They were smart to build hills to shelter it from storms. The east coast of the U.S. is expecting a large hurricane this weekend. New York is expecting to be hit, and it doesn't have anything to protect it!! Be well. I will check in again soon. :)

So interesting to read about this church on the hill. the Groningen sounds familiar I think we drove through it when we came to Holland on our visit to my hubbys family in Remscheid, Germany..we took a day from Bremen where we stayed for 10 days ..we visited Hamburg my hometown and also visited Holland another day. this was in June/July 2010.

Wow, we have no buildings here that are even close to being that old. This is great!

Hi Pyrrhula..love this church on the hill and all what you told us about it. when we were on vacation in Germany in June/July of 2010 we first went to Bremen, Germany where we stayed with friends. they drove us to Hambur my hometown and we also spent one day in Holland before we went by train to Remscheid.my husband's hometown. I'm sure we passed Groningen...that name looked familiar when I saw it there in Holland and now that you mentioned it here... iI made some collages that month from Bremen, Hamburg, Denmark and many others...June 2010 was my collage month..
my friend you have a great weekend...
