Water pumps by pyrrhula

Water pumps

In the old days the water supply was n`t done by pipes . Every farm has a pump also there where public pumps in the city . They still exist but not working any more.
I remember the water pump of my grandmothers farm. Every morning she took us to the pump and
waking us up by put our heads in the water she was pumping.
This has become a ritual, I`m not awake before I `ve my head wetted , now in the bathroom
Great collage

When I see a part of Europe..here Holland..I get homesick and can't wait till summer when hopefully I'm 100% better and can go on vacation..we like to go back to visit Hans's family in Remscheid.
love the village squares and the so very nice looking different pumps. yes I remember them outdoors. in my time we had running water in the house and yes I have to splash my face with cold water to really wake up and be refreshed. wash the sleep out of ones eyes. Purrhula make make such nice collages.

Very cool! I love your story too! My mother too had to carry in the water and heat it over the stove for a bath in the kitchen! It was so much trouble, they only did it on Saturday night before church on Sunday. Also, she had three brothers. She was the only girl, so she got the first bath. Can you imagine how cold and dirty the water was by the time the last brother went through?

Love your collage of the water pumps and the other architecture - nice restful colours in the photos, too. Is that COLD water you put on your head in the morning still?! You've reminded me that where my grandmother lived in one of a terrace of four cottages in a village called Claydon (I was born there) in Suffolk, there was a water pump at the end of the terrace which was used until mains water was laid on. So much has changed, I think, in two generations.....
