By reclaiming land from the sea the old dikes are often ( most ) not removed . They are still in use as a second barrier to save the country. We call them: ``Slapersdijken `` Sleepers dikes. This is such a sleepers dike. Instead of usual the road is not on, but beside the dike. The ditch is essential in the system of removing water out of the polder.
What a great shot! The trees and roadway are lined up just in the right spot in the photo. I like the way the clouds look as though they are moving away from the camera.
