the railway man

this bronze statue by Jill Tweed, depicting a railway man from the 1930s, represents the heritage of Eastleigh Town.

Eastleigh Locomotive Works was built by the London and South Western Railway in 1909.
I think we must have been separated at birth! LOL Tell me what you were doing in Eastleigh?? Wonderful statue to the great railway men of Eastleigh!

@Cherrill Well I'm answering a question with a question! What is your connection with Eastleigh? We went to the optician's: me to hand in my specs to get new frames as the 6 month old ones are falling to pieces; Ray to have an eye test & order new specs. So in my spare time I did a photowalk. We live 3 & 1/2 miles from Eastleigh!

@quietpurplehaze Haha..no way! Before I came to Suffolk I lived for 20 years in Hedge End!! lol :-)

@Cherrill I can hardly believe this - well we both know the saying about the size of the world! We live in Fair Oak. You're going to have a trip or two down memory lane (if you want) as I've decided my camera needs to get out a bit (ban on flower photos for at least 10 posts!!!!)

@quietpurplehaze How amazing! My ex teaches at Fair Oak Junior school..has done for years!! I shall be fascinated to see some of your memory lane pictures soon. :-)

@Cherrill Well this 365 is certainly amazing. Your ex may well have taught our children - they are 37 and 39 respectively now ( I don't disclose this lightly you understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I definitely have the incentive to get out and about now. (Poppies eat your heart out.) Hedge End has undergone amazing expansion recently.

@quietpurplehaze Hmm..let me see....well, he moved from Bursledon Junior sometime early 80's I guess. I'll just say he was/is the music man.........When we moved to Hedhe End I thought I was living in the countryside, opposite the Botley Grange. Then they built the M27 junction, sains etc, then the big estate cutting a lovely lane in half. Now in Suffolk I really know what the countryside is!!

Well I've never been to Eastleigh but he's a fine fellow!!

@Cherrill I think you would not recognise Hedge End now - amorphous sprawl of houses & everything you can think of on the retail park. Neil has no recollection of the music man but it would have been in his time. (Neil's a great & serious music afiicionado but it's not the sort you learnt about at school.)

I love that you made this into a collage so that we can see from all perspectives.

@creativeamateur @tishpics @herussell I think this is a great statue relevant to the history of Eastleigh as a railway town and felt I could not really do it justice unless I made a collage showing all views of it.
