at last, my first butterfly

on purple verbena in the small, but very beautiful, garden at the Magdalen Almshouses in Glastonbury

This really brings out the purple in the tortoiseshell - I don't think I've noticed that before.

@tishpics Patricia, thanks - the only thing is that the furry body is a bit out of focus. Actually managed to get some more butterfly shots yesterday and the same thing happened with them - maybe it's the different levels of the wings and body catching the light, not sure?

@judithg I think it's the effect of the purple verbena which is bringing out the same colour in the butterfly in this shot.

Thank you dear Hazel .. I don`t think so . An aquarium is a glass container for fishes and under water habitats . Aqua = Latin = water

@pyrrhula Well I know an aquarium is a tank for fishes but on Google I found lots of refs to aquariums (aquaria?) for butterflies e.g http://www.vanaqua.org/learn/aquafacts/invertebrates/butterflies

We have for those the name Terrarium and this is a large greenhouse. We call them : butterfly gardens.

What a glorious butterfly! Well done for getting the shot. I have been following a red admiral round my garden for days but no luck yet. He seems to be camera shy!
