A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
This is so fun! Jinks looks like a good friend. I'm glad you miade it in to the picture too! Thank you for the nice comment. Far from brilliant, but I love my job and the kids have taught me a thing or two over the last 24 years!
@pyrrhula Than you! Jinks is not a West Highland White Terrier - he's a Cairn terrier which is a cousin breed to the Westie but they are wheaten, or a rust colour. Did you think he was dirty?!! Jinks has a mind of his own. Perhaps Tobias was the same? Naughty sometimes................
@nana2r Well I think you sound as if you do very well - 24 years! (I taught dyslexic adults for about 10 years as a second late-start career - it was brilliant) Thanks for your comments. My favourite Vivaldi right now is a bassoon concerto on the CD 'The French Connection 2' by La Serenissima - I listen to it over and over and we saw/heard it last year at a concert at uni here.
@quietpurplehaze , I will check that out Hazel. I love many things about Vivaldi. Did you know he composed most of his pieces for his students? And they were GIRLS and they were orphans? I read that people came from everywhere to hear them perform, but they performed out of view of the audience. At that time the audience would stomp their feet and blow their noses to show approval. Funny!!!!!
@nana2r Yes, I did know those things about Vivaldi. Also he was called 'il prete rosso' (the red priest) because of his red hair and beard.
It seems so unjust now, and hard to believe, that he died in abject poverty. La Serenissima was formed by a violinist called Adrian Chandler specifically to play the music of Vivaldi and they have made several CDS. His wife, Mhairi Lawson, is their soprano.
It is a nice portrait of Jinx and a good "selfie' althought that is not in the vocabulary. I've never thought of you as an MX5 type of girl? Interesting.
@doblaine Ah well - hidden depths!!!!!!!!!!!! I really really loved it and was very upset when I knew I had to change it for the sake of being able to get in and out of a car with dignity!
