queueing for the turkey by quietpurplehaze

queueing for the turkey

I had to take Jinks to the vet this morning (nothing serious) and then thought we would have a little walk around the market town. At first I thought these folk were waiting for a bus to go on an outing but then I realised the queue started at the butcher's. I had no original idea for today's photo so this was a 'gift'!!!
I'm so glad you photographed this to share with us, Hazel. I don't think I have seen a queue like this since the early 1940s on one of those exciting days when there was a rumour that the local shop had some eggs or some other scarce rationed item and it was worth joining the queue in the hope of getting one if there were any left when it came to our turn.

@wordpixman Arthur, I'm glad to have revived a memory and I find it very optimistic and humbling that you regard it as exciting instead of bemoaning the lack of food, I was born in 1946 so I don't have those memories but I do remember seeing tins of National Dried Milk in my mother's kitchen cupboard.

@nicoleterheide It is an 'old-fashioned' type butcher's with a very good reputation!

Oooh I've done that a few times - and I've accidentally sent my father-in-law to the wrong butchers! I get it delivered these days... Have a lovely day tomorrow.

Really fabulous 'gift' shot!!! I love it, everyone so disciplined, anticipating their turkeys! Well captured!!

@tishpics Thanks for your enthusiasm! Probably one of the few of my shots which was captured in two tries as I was a bit worried somebody might realise what I was doing but, as you say, they were all pretty intent - typical English queue. Had to crop quite a bit including a large sign in caps saying Bath Travel which was what made me think they were going on a coach trip!
