I've posted the gate, the graveyard - here's the village church.

St Andrews at Mottisfont is 12th or 13th century and Grade 1 listed. The River Test runs nearby and the air is pure here as not only the gate but all the shrubs in the church yard are encrusted with lichen.

The church is built of flint and rubble with tiled roofs.
what a wonderful church

I love it!!

Beautiful old church! That's one of the things we love about Europe, the wonderful old churches. Old in the USA is a couple of hundred years!

Lovely shot of the church - I like the path taking you to the door. Looks like a very interesting church.

Very nicely shot image Hazel, what a pretty church. Looks like the double lancet windows on the right of the door had an extra little window added above to bring in more light and to 'modernise' it - but the ones on the left of the door were untouched. Excellent pov!

@tishpics

Oh that's interesting, thank you - I didn't know about that.

I must go in next time and see what I can photograph.

Pretty church. Good capture

@pyrrhula

I guess it is probably representative of different periods. Must have a look inside next time which will give more clues. I read there is some lovely stained glass.

It is interesting that none of the windows are the same. You will have to report back if you get more info

Fascinating looking church. Great capture, Hazel.

Fascinating looking; beautiful shot. Do you live quite nearby? Are you on the way from London to Cornwall?

@purplehaze12

We are members of NT and visit Mottisfont quite often so I'm sure to have some more photos inside or outside the church. (Just seen the weather forecast on aol and Ray remarked that 'the other Hazel' will probably get some of the snow forecast - snowy pics maybe?)

@barbcapecod

About 20 mins drive away from this church. We are on the south coast not really en route from London to Cornwall, about 1 hour from London and about 3 hours from Cornwall where my auntie lives.

Many thanks for looking and commenting. The walls of the church look as if they need some attention!

@pyrrhula

Yes, bold is a good word.

@quietpurplehaze
Yes we had snow as you saw in my post for today though it is forecast to be gone by tomorrow

@quietpurplehaze We're hoping to come to England a year from this spring, and I keep telling Harvey we have to go and meet my 365 friends!
February 14th, 2013
@barbcapecod

Well if you come, I really hope you will visit us! The nearest place to us of most importance is Winchester, which I love. We're about 7 miles away.
February 14th, 2013
@quietpurplehaze Thanks, we'd love to. We've been to England twice, once to London and a little south and west: the Cotswolds, Bath and Wells, Rye, etc. And once to London and north, to the Lake District and Edinburgh. Now we have to come to London and west-- to Cornwall and Devon, and maybe Land's End or maybe even Wales. Any thoughts?
February 17th, 2013
@barbcapecod

Well you should visit Winchester, definitely. Cornwall, Devon and Land's End would make a good trip together. Maybe instead of Wales, I personally would add in Dorset. But you obviously travel quite big distances which I am unable to do. (Anyhow, we would be in the Winchester bit!)
February 17th, 2013
Well, we were a lot younger for both of those trips, so I don't know what big distances we'll want to go either, especially if we plan it on our own instead of being on a tour of some kind. In England, Harvey likes to figure it out himself, drive on the left side of the road, and visit authors' houses. Thanks for the idea about Dorset.
February 18th, 2013
@barbcapecod

I just thought Dorset fitted in with Devon and Cornwall in terms of area and distances. If Harvey likes authors' houses, Jane Austen's house is in Chawton, not far from here, also the house where she died (not open to the public) in Winchester and she's buried in Winchester Cathedral.
