We saw these at the butterfly house at Staunton Country Park and I found out later that they are Papilio polytes, common species of swallow-tailed butterfly widely distributed across Asia.
'This butterfly is known for the mimicry, displayed by the numerous forms of its females which mimic inedible Red-bodied Swallowtails, such as the Common Rose.'
Thank you very kindly! I don't know whether you know that 'A Moment in time' is actually the title of a book by H E Bates, one of my favourite authors and it's probably my favourite of his books. I had another idea using this title but then this one presented itself.
Beautiful shot for todays word.Ii always find butterflies difficult to take as they tend to flit around before you can get them in shot---so well done!!
A wonderful find and a great capture . Are this two butterflies. in a love position ? Fist I thought a reflection but they don`t fit. Thanks for the interesting info.
Yes, mating butterflies. I could hardly believe my eyes and it was a long moment in time. I googled 'mating butterflies' and found online an exact same pic as mine plus the information.
Another unexpected shot!
