The tall post with nesting box in Knowle Park is for barn owls. I love them but have not seen one here yet although I shall feel very privileged if I ever do. In the meantime the nesting box makes a different feature in the sunset.
Jinks and I captured this a couple of days ago.
(I do have to give him some credit for pulling on the extending lead whist I am trying, one-handed, to keep the camera steady enough to take a photo.)

Stunning colours Hazel and I do empathise the problems of taking shots with dog attached - nearly all mine are like that, and most of @judithg's are as well! There should be a special section for us! It would be wonderful for you if an owl did decide to take up residence here!
Thanks, Patricia - and I know you and Judith @judithg can sympathise with the difficulties of one-handed dog assist (Judith's great description!) shots. I think it's partly why I've, to some extent, taken against my bridge camera and use my little Lumix much more.
@quietpurplehaze shhh! I have just today ordered a compact digital because I agree with you! Also there are other occasions when I might be dogless but in a town shopping or even in a hurry somewhere and I just don't want to have a cumbersome camera with me. I absolutely love my Nikon D3100 but for those times when I might just want to catch something when I haven't got it with me then I need a pocket sized camera! Its a Nikon Coolpix P330 recommended as a good alternative for my needs! Its coming Tuesday!
Well done you! I think at heart I'll always be a P&S merchant partly because that's where I started my photography and partly because I like to be spontaneous in my shots!!!
A beautiful sky at night Hazel....that owl nesting box makes a great silhouette....the little fringe around the middle is delightful. @tishpics@quietpurplehaze That is exactly why I bought a compact camera ....I was finding the larger DSLR so cumbersome & I specially love street photography ...when I can get in a street.....I wanted to be able to take mine shopping & just whip it out!
Gorgeous! And we are all becoming multiple camera owners. I took my old one out yesterday and today and suddenly I was more inspired by it again - good to ring the changes.
Gorgeous sky and I love the way we can see the sun just going down just behind the trees. That nesting box makes an interesting slihouette. Wouldn't it be fabulous to have a silhouette of an owl sitting there! Maybe one day you will be lucky enough to see one.

Yes I agree with that. I've also realised that some of the reasons I haven't liked my bridge camera were to do with my ineptitude!!
I'll be excited too, Chris, if I get to see some shots of your owl! Now I'm wondering what tu-whit tu whoo is in French?!
Even more fabulous if I captured him in flight!!
Thanks, I was watching for the moment!
