This silver heart pendant with amethyst was created for me by my daughter, Clare, a silversmith.
I decided to have a try at photographing it and some of the other pieces she has made for me. Clare sometimes uses slate as a background so that was my starting point.
Then I found that my pink t-shirt was giving some bright and unwanted reflections so it was back to the wardrobe.
I photographed the pendant in low-key and then gave it a tiny bit of HDR plus vignette in Picasa. Voici!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Beautiful and what a clever daughter you have. Also I admire your abilities to do all this editing as I haven't really got a clue and tend to upload SOOC. I'm a bit lazy about it all really!
Your clever daughter has made a beautiful piece just for you Hazel.....your colours too! Fancy having your own jewellery designer! A piece you will be proud to wear.
Jason, what a beautiful name! If it interests you to have a peek at Clare's jewellery you can see some of it here. http://folksy.com/shops/rosemadder8
She works very much on individual commissions with her clients.
I like you daughters works (you already know`s that) I think you did a great pic, of it that shows the beauty of it very well.
I myself have always big problems with capture my jewels. Even by the finest polish you see scratches on the pic. And the background. I never have found a good one. ( I`ve tried black velvet and paper , turns out to be hopeless)

Clare was a fan of Prince in her teens but I didn't know the name of the song - so that's a coincidence!!
Richard, thank you, it's given me confidence to try photographing some more jewellery items.

I have a piece of slate (which is really a cheese board) and that's what I used for this shot. It still took quite a bit of time to get a good photo.
