I stood on the bridge at Eastleigh Railway Station hoping a purple Flybe would appear in the sky. I had to make do with this shot of a train.
A bit of artistic licence here to reproduce a verse from W H Auden's poem about the mail train but I just love the rhythm of the train running through the words:
"Letters of thanks, letters from banks,
Letters of joy from the girl and the boy,
Receipted bills and invitations
To inspect new stock or visit relations,
And applications for situations
And timid lovers' declarations
And gossip, gossip from all the nations,
News circumstantial, news financial,
Letters with holiday snaps to enlarge in,
Letters with faces scrawled in the margin,
Letters from uncles, cousins, and aunts,
Letters to Scotland from the South of France,
Letters of condolence to Highlands and Lowlands
Notes from overseas to Hebrides
Written on paper of every hue,
The pink, the violet, the white and the blue,
The chatty, the catty, the boring, adoring,
The cold and official and the heart's outpouring,
Clever, stupid, short and long,
The typed and the printed and the spelt all wrong."
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
I do believe one or two passers-by gave me a strange look!
Too true - had not thought of it!
( Please, explain : you're just teasing now! I don`t quiet understand )
Ferry, I don't understand what you don't understand - please explain, and then I'll explain.
I meant that you are too skilled finding all these toadstool shots but I can hardly find any! Just teasing too!
