the side door by quietpurplehaze

the side door

In this area churches often have red doors: our parish church, Winchester Cathedral, this church at Cheriton....

Is there an ecclesiastical reason, I wonder, or is it just that they contrast nicely with the brick and flint walls?
Very nice. Fav

Interesting thought Hazel and I didn't know the reason for red doors at a church, but guess what, Google knows. ha ha. http://3quarterstoday.com/2011/02/12/significance-of-red-doors-in-a-church/
Don't know if this is true, but at least it is an explanation that sounds plausible.
I love the brickwork on this photo, must be a very old church.

Thank you for that, Babs - sounds likely. I've now put you a shot of the front of the church wth a bit more info about it http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/a-few-more/2016-07-24 Just as I was about to press the shutter to take this shot of the side door, the bell above me at the top of the tower suddenly 'bonged' the hour and gave me a fright!

Nice shot and a great example of how an everyday thing, we'd normally just pass by, can make a great image if done properly. Interesting church/door info too...now to be on the lookout for any red church doors around here.

So many great textures n this shot, and the red door really pops.

I did not know the history of red doors on churches, but I've taken pictures of the many I've seen because they really call attention to themselves. I love all the textures in this shot and the perspective of the other one of the full church. Both favs!

great capture of this nice door and brikworks. The briksworks often tell the (building ) history of the church.
