fading away

A small homage to Vincent van Gogh who died by suicide this day, July 29, 1890, at the age of 37 in his room at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise.

I love his work but confess I found it slightly strange when I first saw his earlier paintings of dead sunflowers.

Now I'm photographing dead sunflowers myself.
:-) A great homage. Mine are just coming to bud now. There is an interesting sounding TV program over the weekend about Van Gogh and his ear!!

@Cherrill

Will have a look - caught a prog on Radio 4 about him in the car and then forgot to listen at home the next day.

A fitting tribute to Van Gogh .It does have its own beauty in its fading petals .

Nicely done, Hazel. Fading flowers are such a wonderful subject. I really like the POV which emphasises the droop and the limited area of focus is just right. Good in b/w too I imagine! Fav .

i love his paintings, too; so full of angst yet beautiful. i visited the van gogh museum in holland many years ago and couldn't get away from each painting, i was just staring at them, my partner practically had to carry me to the next one all the time because i would just stare and analyze each and every painting. this is a lovely tribute. i have sunflowers, too, i maybe will have a sunflower shot either today or tomorrow. aces, hazel!

Art is interpretive :) I much prefer cheerful sunflowers but you have captured the dying one so well. And after our visit to the museum a few weeks ago I am in awe of the intensity of Vincent's work. Fav

Ha ha Hazel you are in Vincent Van Gogh mode! I can definitely see what he saw in droopy sunflowers!
July 29th, 2016
great image in lovely detail and colour Hazel, as a boy at school our art master introduce us to all the classic painters he was so knowledgeable and interesting I get into painting, Vincent Van Gogh because of his bright colour was a favourite:)

@summerfield

It could be you went to the same exhibition as us. I have the catalogue, could never read all of it but great to dip in to. Hope to see your sunflowers!

Cool picture. Congratulations on making the Trending Page. Well deserved.

At least when the flower stops one can harvest the seeds, just like after the death of the artist the paintings go on giving.
