Fresh rain from the sky always tastes better. The small of rain is from the chemical change in the soil when it hits the ground and nitrogen release, so maybe that is why dogs like it better too.
They have a choice so puddles must taste better. What's surprising is that we don't try it too. Don't usually like this technique but I think the touch of colour works very well here.
