Some of my 365 friends will already be aware that my dad's PoW diary is about to be published in book form.
I know some will want to read the book.
Not wanting to contravene any restrictions on 'advertising' on this site, I wrote to Ross @scrivna and am delighted this morning to receive an email from him saying that there is no problem at all giving details, when the time comes, of where the book is published.
In my collage:
- my parents' wedding photo - four months after this my dad went off to war, returning four years later
- a little diary found in my dad's effects after his death - extracts from this are included in the book
What a wonderful thing to happen Hazel. I've enjoyed the extracts you have offered to us. If only he knew what a legacy he has left. I have all the letters my grandparents wrote to each other when they were courting, she on the Isle of Wight, he in London. It is a wonderful insight into another era. Maybe when I retire I might return to them.
Babs, I'm 'made-up' and overwhelmed in equal parts. I did manage to speak to our photography group about it yesterday with the help of Ian, the publisher.
I echo Cherrill's @Cherrill comments Hazel, I have really enjoyed the interesting extracts along the way and can't wait to get my hands on a copy, similarly to Cherrill I have two albums of post cards my grandparents sent to one another whilst courting and the early years of marriage from 1890's to 1919 that I have typed up and printed:)
@pcoulson How lovely for you. My letters are in the 1910's - I've read them so many times. Its just having the time to sit down with them and transcribe. Sorry Hazel to hijack your feed!!
Such a lovely tributue to your parents Hazel, Im currently doing my family history and have my Dads letters from when he was a POW and quite a few photos etc quite a different world
Just imagine only being married four months then not seeing your husband for four whole years! I don't think they would be able to cope these days! Good news re book details, you must be excited!
That is awesome Hazel! Looking forward to the details when you have them (tag me just to be sure I see it!). What an incredible story. It must have been a nightmare for your mom too. Great collage!
Wonderful image. I'd love to read the book. My grandfather was a POW after his ship sank in the English Channel. I've found a few newspaper clippers about his experience and it fascinates me. I wish he had kept a journal.
Lovely shot

Ann, I have now found your email on your profile and will be in touch as you requested when my dad's diary is published. Thanks for your interest.
