This week, Ray and I attended the funeral of our neighbour, Bert, who lived opposite us. He was 91, nearly 92 and this was the floral tribute from his wife, Joyce, who is 93.
Bert and Joyce had been married 68 years. I went over to see her this afternoon and she said how strange it was to be without Bert after 68 years together. She is a very capable lady, cooks every day and drives the car.
I was glad I had taken my little Lumix in my handbag as I can now take her a print of her lovely flowers.(My shots were not all taken on the diagonal for half and half!)
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Oh bless them both what a trauma for his wife, she seems a capable lady though so hopefully will keep her chin up & remember the good times with love. Will look at Bert now, have to finish writing first!
So sad they are parted after a long and happy marriage hope Joyce is Ok on her own.Lovely flowers and half and half capture. Nice photo of Bert he looks a lovely neighbour to have.
I had a peek at your image of Bert - it will be lovely to have one printed to give to your neighbour. She will feel very strange not having his company after all this time. Our neighbours have both just turned 95 and have been married 74 years! They are still in their own home (with heaps of support from family I might add) and are amazing.
Oh Hazel, what a lovely half and half, and how nice that you told us Bert's story. I looked back at your previous image too - how glad you must be that you took that then!
68 years is amazing! You can tell by his picture that he was a good person- an engaging smile and looking straight at the camera. I know his wife will treasure the photos as well as her memories. Nicely done for the half and half challenge.
