As we walked through the precinct at Winchester Cathedral on a sunny but chilly day, Ray was approached and asked to take a photo of a couple with their mobile phone. Which he did - and then I requested a photo with my camera, explaining my strangers' project.
I introduced myself and discovered them to be Karen and Moses, from South Korea, now living in the USA. They were happy for me to take their photo but when I viewed the shots at home I felt they really did look rather cold and almost wished I had not asked.
Moses told me that Karen is a realtor and described himself as a businessman. They were on a cruise and their next destination was Portugal, followed by the Canary Islands where I really hope there will be some warm sun.
I gave them my card in case they wished to contact me for photos but Ray told me later that he had taken a more full-length shot of them against the backdrop of Winchester Cathedral - probably a more appropriate holiday photo.
I am not quite sure what this situation is called - not 'photobombing' but there must be a name for it - any ideas?
I call it a wonderful opportunity without have to pluck up the courage to ask! Love the way you have filled the frame with their faces! Trying to work out the relationship...Moses looks older than Karen so perhaps father & daughter but these days you never know!
Well I always think of a street portrait shot as one which has not required permission but I may be wrong. It was originally only a head and shoulders which I cropped a bit more. I liked the quality but felt disappointed that they were obviously so cold...........
I love the close up crop Haze and I don't see cold. The image has quite a blue tone with the clothes , so perhaps you interpret that as "cold". You can warm the photo by adjusting the white balance temp (if your photo editor allows this).
Would mono make it warmer,
I really like it haze :)
Phil, thanks for critique - a few bits make me think they feel cold: the window blowing Karen's hair, their clothes, their expressions and yes perhaps the colours. Short of inspiration for a photo for today so will convert to b&w and see what happens. Thanks!

They are husband and wife.
I have to wait and see if they get in touch - just assuming that they will prefer Ray’s shot taken with their phone!
