I was upstairs playing photos when Ray went off to tennis yesterday afternoon.
When I came down to make some tea, I happened to glance through the kitchen window and saw that the wind had lifted up the parasol (firmly screwed into its socket) and impaled it on an arm of the whirly-gig washing line.
Firstly to get the little pots of agapanthus out from underneath it - surprisingly not damaged. Then I took the scissors to cut the parasol off the line. And then, surprisingly again, I managed to fold up the parasol.
I took a shot or two to show Ray and then thought I would use one here in my new garden series............
I'll show you my new sunflower tomorrow! P.S. I guess this is not a bad view of part of the garden: to the left the wooden enclosure Ray built to keep Jinks safe from escaping and which is now our 'garden room', further left a glimpse of the only remaining bit of lawn, and behind the parasol, the scree garden and Ray's acer and his owl statue.
The first thing Ray did was get out some sticky tape and mended it on the top, says it will not show. Glad nobody got knocked over when it fell down, quite a weight and force I imagine, @dide
The parasol was screwed tight in to the base so yes must have been a huge gust. I confess to sitting in the garden and Ray does all the work, with some maintenance help from our son. Ray has been a gardener from age 10 when he did his mum's.
First thing is I notice how lovely your garden is Hazel! Funny you have shown us so many photos of gorgeous places but this is the first picture I have seen of this part of your garden. I remember pictures of Jinks in his penned off bit but I donโt remember seeing any other part.
Looks like the umbrella had torn too, we have had exactly the same thing happen to our brolly in the past, itโs amazing how the wind can just get underneath & lift a fairly cumbersome thing like an umbrella!
That was a strong gust!! Can I recommend a quick trip to the two of you to Salisbury Cathedral to see the Gaia Installation- only there for another week. It is quite stunning and photogenic!!
I was surprised that the wind could do that! I am lucky that Ray loves gardening. The garden slopes from the house to a stream at the bottom and he had the top part landscaped with a scree garden, small fountain, circle of lawn and the deck.

Surprisingly undamaged given its long journey!!!
I do like what I see from your garden

Jackie so kind to flag it up but we will be in Welsh Wales soon - might see if we can fit it in somehow!
Ray liked the acer so much that he has bought two more!
